Personal Proof

On a personal note, today, I’m focusing on gratitude.

I know that when I move from grudge to gratitude, I experience an uplift in my  spirit.

Right now, my beloved twelve year old dog, Kellie, is sadly close to the end of her life. She had surgery for breast cancer almost 18 months ago. We have had a wonderful  life together and her devotion has brought be through some dark days. I could be angry and upset. I could rant that it’s not fair. Why her? and want to find some way to avoid the inevitable.

With gratitude, I  am filled with a sense of peace and appreciation, making space for calm, happy memories, joy and freedom from regret. I can let her simply be as well as she can be, and not try and make her be ’better’.

I am learning a lot about compassion and understanding. This is our journey and I have more to learn than she has. She has always been my best teacher.

This is a time to surrender and let go, with grace and ease. She is accepting of her fate.

Of course I will never forget the love we shared, and now its time to transform this experience to one of growth. I am forever grateful for the lessons learned that help me to move forward with strength, and letting me focus on what truly matters.

This beloved old dog, with her wise, soulful eyes and gentle presence, offers me profound lessons on life, love, and gratitude.

I am grateful for her

The power of her presence: She is, as always, living in the moment, undisturbed by past dramas or future worries.

Patience and Adaptability: As she aged, she has adapted to her new limits with grace, adjusting to slower movements and diminished senses without complaint. She has been completely deaf for many years. It did not diminish her capacity to listen.

Unconditional Love: She loves purely, without conditions or expectations, reminding me of the beauty of loving others without holding back, and cherishing their presence simply for being there.

Value in the Simple Things: For an old dog, life’s greatest pleasures are often the simplest — a soft bed, a gentle touch, or a familiar scent. She has taught me that happiness isn’t in grand experiences, but in appreciating the little things around us – especially on our daily walks in the woods.

Resilience and Courage: Despite her aches and pains that came with illness and age, she has persevered. She walks when she can, and show me that strength doesn’t mean being untouched by life but embracing it fully, even in its later stages.

Grace in Letting Go: Now that her time has come, she is showing me the beauty of acceptance and letting go, reminding me that life is a precious, finite journey — and that the end is a natural part of it, to be faced with dignity and love.

This gentle creature will leave eternal pawprints on my hearts, having taught me lessons that will linger long after she has gone. She has been, for me, the wise soul who showed me how to live a life filled with love, patience, and acceptance.

What attitude of gratitude can you adopt today? Who can you thank, and for what?
